The Potomac KnowledgeWay is a not-for-profit leadership organization that acts as a catalyst,
thought leader and idea incubator to help prepare and educate the Greater Washington region to
be a global leader in advanced telecommunications, content, and Internet-related industries, and
the new opportunities their convergence is creating in the region. Formally launched in November
1995, the KnowledgeWay is supported by a number of businesses and organizations across the
region.
We pursue our mission through three programs:
KnowledgeWayVOICE - a regional awareness program to increase the public's understanding
of the New Economy in the Greater Washington region and the critical success factors to sustain
the region's leadership in these industries. Projects include: a baseline study of the New Economy
in the region; studies on industry sectors; an econometric impact report on the importance of the
information and communications industry on the region's economy now and in the future; and a
"Regional Report Card" that measures the region's progress on human, financial, entrepreneurial,
education and research infrastructure issues.
KnowledgeWayWORKS a program to facilitate communication and collaboration among
regional stakeholders to meet the education and workforce needs of the New Economy. Projects
include a web-based clearinghouse for the latest information on regional workforce programs,
issues and events; an online resource center featuring relevant research, models of success, and
best practices; a Skills for Success program that identifies skills required by industry, today and in
the future, and articulates them to the education community; and regular events that promote
networking and communication among stakeholders in business and education.
KnowledgeWay Research and Education Collaborative - brings research, education and
policy issues together across public and private sectors through a series of leadership symposia.
