The Potomac KnowledgeWay Project, Inc., maintains this Internet World Wide Web site as a service to the Potomac region and the Internet community at large. Its purpose is to advance the KnowledgeWay Project's mission, which is to understand and communicate the potential rewards and risks of the knowledge revolution, inspiring our community to seize its economic, educational and social opportunities, and making the region a global model of collaborative achievement.

Many people throughout the region and the larger Internet community use the Potomac KnowledgeWay Web site for communicating, collaborating and sharing information. Each user must share in the responsibility to use these facilities wisely, fairly and with courtesy. Read these Acceptable Use Policies carefully before accessing or using the Potomac KnowledgeWay Web site. By accessing any page of the Web site beyond its "Home" page, you agree to abide by the Code of Conduct and Terms of Participation set forth herein (Agreement). If you do not wish to be bound by this Code of Conduct and Terms of Participation, do not access or use the Potomac KnowledgeWay Web site.

Access and use of the Potomac KnowledgeWay Web site, the information it makes available, the services it provides, and any derivative use thereof, are subject to the Code of Conduct and Terms of Participation set forth herein and all applicable laws. The Potomac KnowledgeWay Project, Inc., may revise the Acceptable Use Policies from time to time by updating this posting with a clear message in the "What’s New" and "Home" pages stating that there are changes in the Potomac KnowledgeWay Web site Acceptable Use Policies. The Potomac KnowledgeWay Project reserves the right to remove any objectionable material or terminate any misuse of services which contravene these agreements of fair conduct and participation.

In essence, the Code of Conduct and Terms of Participation amount to some common sense principles which can be summarized in 10 points. Be sure to read this entire document carefully however. You must agree to the full text of the Code and Terms in order to participate at the KnowledgeWay Project's Web site.

Summary Code of Conduct and Terms of Participation

  1. You will use the Potomac KnowledgeWay Web site in the spirit of the KnowledgeWay Project’s mission.

  2. You accept responsibility to keep your postings accurate and current.

  3. You will not abuse the information provided by reselling it, by using it for commercial or political purposes, for mass communications or to invade the privacy of others through unwelcome communications.

  4. You accept the rights of all people to free association in the use of the Potomac KnowledgeWay Web site except where the Project has determined that their information or behavior contravenes the Acceptable Use Policies. You will in no way interfere with that right, act or communicate with threat or hostility, or attempt to alter information or communications that do not belong to you.

  5. You will not post or transmit objectionable material and will communicate courteously and with regard to the feelings of others.

  6. You will observe and obey the rules of copyright and personal property.

  7. You will not use the Potomac KnowledgeWay Project Web site for illegal activities.

  8. You agree that neither the Potomac KnowledgeWay Project nor any of its affiliates, agents and partners are responsible for any damages of any type that you may incur through use of the Potomac KnowledgeWay Project Web site or any of its products or services.

  9. You agree to observe all copyrights and limitations on use of the Potomac KnowledgeWay Web site and the information posted on it.

  10. You accept that this Agreement applies to you, will abide by all service marks and accept the legal provisions for governing law, forum and integration.

  1. Fulfilling the spirit of The Potomac KnowledgeWay Mission
    The Potomac KnowledgeWay Project's mission is to further understanding and communication of the potential rewards and risks of the knowledge revolution, inspiring our community to seize its economic, educational and social opportunities, and making the region a global model of collaborative achievement. Each and every use and application of the Potomac KnowledgeWay Web site information and services should, in some way, contribute to or further the fulfillment of the Project's mission.

  2. Accuracy of Information and Communications
    The accuracy, relevance and quality of the information and communications provided by individuals such as yourself set the tone and level of quality for Potomac KnowledgeWay Project Web site. For this reason you agree that the information contained in any of contributions you make available for use with or through the Potomac KnowledgeWay Project Web site will be accurate to the best of your knowledge. You also agree to keep entered or posted information that is retained in Potomac KnowledgeWay Project Web site current and, when applicable, purged once the information has served its purpose.

  3. Use and Abuse of Information and Communications

    While you may retain the copyright in material you upload or post to Potomac KnowledgeWay Project Web site, all such material you submit will become part of a database, the compilation copyright in which is owned exclusively by the Potomac KnowledgeWay Project, Inc. You will not upload, post, publish, transmit, reproduce, or distribute in any way, information, software or other material that is copyrighted, or derivative works with respect thereto, to Potomac KnowledgeWay Project Web site or obtained from Potomac KnowledgeWay Project Web site without the prior written permission of the copyright owner or rightholder. Similarly, you agree to recognize and carry forward trademark and service marks applicable to these materials.

  7. Use for Illegal Activities Prohibited

    The following are service marks of The Potomac KnowledgeWay Project, Inc.: The Potomac KnowledgeWay Project, The Potomac KnowledgeWay, KnowledgeWay, and the KnowledgeWay Connected logo.

  12. Governing Law and Forum
    This Agreement, all intellectual property issues, and your rights and obligations shall be governed by the laws of the United States of America and the Commonwealth of Virginia governing contracts wholly entered into and wholly performed with the Commonwealth of Virginia. Any and all proceedings relating to or arising from this Agreement shall be maintained in the courts of the County of Fairfax, of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the United States District Courts for the Eastern District of Virginia, which courts shall have exclusive jurisdiction over such proceedings, and you hereby consent to the jurisdiction of such courts.

  13. Integration
    This code of conduct and terms of participation, and any supplemental code and terms posted on the system, represents the entire agreement between you and the Potomac KnowledgeWay Project, Inc. regarding Potomac KnowledgeWay Project Web site, and it supersedes and merges all prior proposals, understandings and other agreements, oral and written, between us.
